Carmel Garrow made the F45-49 race look almost easy. The Roseville runner crossed in 19:23 — a 6:14-per-mile clip that put her 8th among all women in the field and more than three minutes clear of anyone in her age group. What made her performance especially sharp was how she finished: her 2M→3M split ranked 7th among all women, meaning she was running her fastest when others were fading. She moved from 14th among women at the first checkpoint all the way to 8th by the finish line, a steady, deliberate climb through the field.

Behind her, the race for 2nd and 3rd told a different story. Bryn Mumma of Sacramento ran a strong second half — her 23rd-best women's split on the back portion of the course helped her lock up 2nd in 22:36. Katie Sommerdorf and Ia Yang, both from the Sacramento area, were locked in a tight duel through the middle miles, separated by just 11 seconds at the line (23:10 to 23:21). Neither gained much ground in the 1M→2M segment — both ranked in the 40s among women on that stretch — but they held their shape to the finish.

Sarah Fowler rounded out the top five in 25:50, with Nicole Gissell (26:25) and Kelly Pope (27:51) not far behind. With 41 finishers spread across a wide range of finishing times, the F45-49 group at Barks & Brews showed genuine depth — Garrow simply ran a race that no one in the group could answer.
