It wasn't a wire-to-wire blowout — the lead was real but earned through consistency rather than a dramatic surge.

The more kinetic story belonged to Jackson Yacullo of Auburn. The 24-year-old was sitting 47th among men after the opening mile, but he put together a strong 1M→2M leg — the 15th-fastest split on that segment among the women's field logged for comparison — and hauled himself all the way to 24th by the finish, good enough for 2nd in the age group at 18:31. Keith Toncu rounded out the podium in 18:57, running a composed 6:06 pace out of Sacramento.

Behind the top three, the field spread out considerably. Ethan Machado came in 4th at 21:04, nearly two minutes back from Toncu — a gap that effectively split the age group into two tiers.
