Jeffrey Moreland, 49, making the trip down from Reno, put on a clinic in Sacramento's Memorial Day warmth — 68°F with a 14 mph breeze that did little to slow him. His 5:41/mi average through 3.1 miles was the class of the M45-49 group, and his strongest segment came when it mattered most: the final mile, where he surged through the men's field after briefly slipping back, locking in the win with authority.

Joe Flesher, racing on home turf in Sacramento, was the only man to stay within shouting distance. His 18:03 — a 5:49/mi clip — earned a clear 2nd, and his 18th-fastest split among the men on the middle mile showed he wasn't coasting. Daric Aguinaga of Carmichael rounded out the podium in 19:37, with Jason Reed (20:01) and Dylan Pierce (20:30) completing a top five that was spread across 2:50 of total time.

The back half of the field told its own story. Juan Sanchez and Robert Podwalny were inseparable — 21:14 and 21:17, just three seconds apart for 6th and 7th. Then came a cluster around the 22–23 minute mark: Byron Chen, Omar Marroquin, and Jeremy Heath finishing 8th through 10th within a 16-second window. Thirty-seven men finished in M45-49, and the spread from Moreland's 17:40 to the back of the listed field illustrated just how wide a range this group brought to the start line.
