Barks & Brews 5K: Lily Fowler Leads the F16-18 Field Wire to Wire

• Lily Fowler won the F16-18 age group in 21:44 (6:60/mi), finishing 23rd among women overall.
• Loti Boucher was 27 seconds back in 2nd, running 22:11 (7:08/mi) and climbing from 33rd to 27th among women across the race.
• Giuliana Martino and Riya Angeleen separated themselves from the rest of the field, finishing 3rd and 4th in 27:26 and 28:37 respectively — with a telling contrast in how they got there.
• A gap of nearly 27 minutes separated 6th-place Fariha Amiri (30:39) from 7th-place Avery Strickland (57:25), the widest split anywhere in the age group.

Lily Fowler controlled the F16-18 race from the front, running a 6:60/mi pace across Sacramento's 5K course under clear skies and a 14 mph wind. She held steady through the middle mile — posting the 27th-fastest women's split on the 1M→2M segment — and never relinquished her age-group lead. Her fellow Sacramento runner Loti Boucher was the closest challenger, gaining ground in the women's field through the middle stretch (rising from 33rd to 28th among women) and posting the 26th-fastest women's split on that same 1M→2M leg. The 27-second gap between them was the decisive margin of the race.

Behind the top two, the battle for the podium told two very different stories. Giuliana Martino ran a measured, progressive race — climbing steadily from 109th to 94th among women — and finished 3rd in 27:26, posting the 58th-fastest women's closing split from 3M to the finish. Riya Angeleen, by contrast, went out fast (79th among women through the first mile) before fading to 113th by mile three, then rallied to post the 31st-fastest women's split on that final stretch. It wasn't enough to close the gap on Martino, but it earned her 4th in 28:37.

Emma Robirds (5th, 30:35) and Fariha Amiri (6th, 30:39) were separated by just four seconds — Robirds making a dramatic charge from 209th among women at mile one all the way to 148th at the finish, the biggest positional climb in the age group. Avery Strickland and Addison Munoz rounded out the eight-finisher field, completing what was clearly a challenging day on the course.
