Garrett Gardner never relinquished the lead, holding first place at every checkpoint en route to a 15:43 victory at 5:04 per mile on a clear Sacramento morning. His fastest 2M→3M split sealed it — nobody in the men's field ran that third-mile stretch quicker. Behind him, Chikara Omine (43 years old, Sacramento) was the most dangerous early threat, owning the fastest 1M→2M split before settling into 2nd at 15:51. The gap between 1st and 2nd was eight seconds; the gap between 2nd and 5th was just six more.

The real drama in the men's race was the chase pack sorting itself out. Burd entered mile two in 5th, moved to 3rd by mile three, and held it to the line in 15:52 — running the 2nd-fastest closing split of any man. Shane Marshall ran the fastest 3M→finish split in the field yet still couldn't catch Burd, finishing 4th in 15:56. Leon Flesher, at 13, was the most striking year-over-year mover: from 7th in 17:33 last year to 10th in 16:48 this time, a 45-second drop that would have earned him a higher finish in 2025's edition. Darren Morgan (57 years old, 13th, 17:34) and Joe Flesher (45 years old, 17th, 18:03) both ran slightly slower than their 2025 times, while Taylor Gall slipped from 6th in 17:28 last year to 18th in 18:07 — a reminder that the front of this men's field has gotten sharper.
