Gwenaelle Begue set the tone early and never let it slip. Sitting 4th among women at every checkpoint through the first half, she shifted gears on the back end, running the 2nd-fastest women's second-half split in the entire women's field to seal a convincing win in 18:18. At 5:54 per mile through Sacramento's morning conditions — 68°F with a 14 mph wind — that's a performance that stood well clear of the rest of the F40-44 group.

Lauren Ferrara gave chase throughout. She tracked Begue closely from the gun, running 5th among women at the halfway mark and holding that position to the line in 18:43. Her 5th-fastest women's second-half split shows she, too, was getting stronger as the race wore on — just not quite enough to close the 25-second gap. Elizabeth Lyon Catlin, the oldest of the top three at 44, rounded out the podium in 19:32, climbing from 11th among women at the start to 9th by the finish — a quiet, steady move through the field.

Christina Nokes (4th, 19:45) told a different story: she slipped from 8th among women early to 13th mid-race before rallying with the 9th-fastest women's split from 3M to the finish, recovering four spots to land just off the podium. The most dramatic finish of the day, though, came between Brittany Busse and Katrina Saleen — both clocked 23:38 by the clock, but Busse's 23:38.12 to Saleen's 23:38.30 settled 9th and 10th by barely 0.18 seconds.
