Two Cities Marathon 10K — M70-74: Anderson Runs Away With It

• Mike Anderson (1st, 57:15) won the M70-74 group by a commanding 11:33 margin, averaging 9:13/mi — more than 1:51/mi faster than the runner-up.
• Thomas Broach (2nd, 1:08:48) and John Erickson (3rd, 1:09:02) were separated by just 14 seconds after 6.2 miles.
• Victor Yanez (4th, 1:10:52) finished 1:50 behind Erickson, keeping the middle of the pack tightly bunched — all four of the top finishers within 13:37 of each other.
• Daniel Lee Wright Sr. (5th, 1:48:32) and Ken Carter (6th, 1:50:14) completed the six-man field, finishing 1:42 apart at 17:28/mi and 17:44/mi respectively.

Mike Anderson made this one look easy. The 70-year-old Fresno native crossed in 57:15 at a 9:13/mi clip — the only finisher in the M70-74 group to break the hour mark, and by a wide margin at that. While the rest of the field was still working through the back half of the course, Anderson had already finished his morning's work.

Behind him, the real drama played out in a tight three-man cluster. Broach, the eldest of the group at 74, came in at 1:08:48, with Erickson just 14 seconds back at 1:09:02 — a hard-fought battle over 6.2 miles that Broach held on to win by the slimmest margin of the day. Yanez wasn't far behind either, crossing at 1:10:52 to round out the top four within a two-minute window.

Wright Sr. and Carter brought home the back of the six-man field in a different kind of race entirely, both navigating the course at a measured pace — Wright Sr. finishing in 1:48:32 and Carter in 1:50:14. Six men, all aged 70 to 74, all covering 6.2 miles through Fresno on a Sunday morning. That's the real headline.
