M25-29 10K: Hoang Laps the Field in Fresno

Jason Hoang's 33:32 was in a different race entirely. Running 5:24 per mile through the streets of Fresno, the 26-year-old from San Francisco crossed the line before most of his M25-29 competitors had reached the 7-mile mark. The gap to runner-up Joshua Buck was 12 minutes and 6 seconds — not a close race at the top, but an emphatic statement.

The real contest for the podium played out between Buck and Kyle Bounthong, both 26-year-olds running virtually the same pace — 7:21 and 7:22 per mile respectively. Buck held on for 2nd in 45:38, with Bounthong crossing just six seconds later in 45:44. Erick Alvarez (4th, 48:52) and Chris Silva (5th, 49:42) rounded out the top five within about a minute of each other, keeping that middle tier competitive.

Further back, the battle between Alexander Cornil and Nick Formby was the tightest of the day by the clock. Cornil (8th, 58:42) and Formby (9th, 58:43) finished one second apart after 6.2 miles, both averaging 9:27 per mile. Meanwhile, the rest of the field stretched across a wide range of paces, from Jake Busald's 8:16/mi in 6th through to the 14-minute-plus miles of the final finishers — a reminder that in a 10K age group, the field can span an enormous spectrum of effort and experience.
