Two Cities 10K — F55-59: Fernandez Dominates from Clovis

• Laurie Fernandez won the F55-59 age group in 56:17 (9:03/mi) — finishing more than 3½ minutes clear of second place.
• Mary Ford took second in 59:50, the only other finisher to break the hour mark.
• Third through sixth place all finished within a 3-minute window (1:01:34–1:03:59), with just 16 seconds separating 5th and 6th.
• 31 women completed the F55-59 race across the full field.

Laurie Fernandez, 58, of Clovis made this one look almost comfortable. Her 56:17 at a 9:03/mi clip wasn't just a win — it was a statement, putting 3 minutes and 33 seconds between herself and the rest of the age group. No one in the F55-59 field came close to matching that pace.

Fellow Clovis runner Mary Ford, 57, was the only other athlete to crack an hour, finishing in 59:50 (9:38/mi). That's a meaningful gap to Fernandez — nearly 40 seconds per mile slower — but Ford was clearly in a class of her own for second place, arriving 1:44 ahead of the bronze medal battle.

That bronze battle was a genuine contest. Karen Camoroda, 59, of Fresno crossed in 1:01:34 to claim third, with Ofelia Maldonado, 58, just 16 seconds behind in 1:01:50 for fourth. Right behind them, Lonnie Stockton (1:03:55) and Kimberly Badertscher (1:03:59) staged their own micro-duel for 5th and 6th — separated by a mere 4 seconds after 6.2 miles.

Further back, a cluster of eight runners — from Krystyna Sarro's 1:05:22 in 7th through Ismaela Muniz's 1:11:24 in 13th — filled out a competitive mid-pack, with Carmen Mendoza (1:12:06, 14th) and Melinda Jones (1:14:07, 15th) rounding out the individually listed finishers before the field extended to 31 total. Fresno and Clovis runners dominated the top of the leaderboard, making this very much a Central Valley showdown.
