M60-64: Boshart Dominates the Fresno Streets

• Robert Boshart won the M60-64 group in 23:19 (7:30/mi) — more than four and a half minutes clear of second place.
• Raul Rodriguez claimed second in 27:51 (8:58/mi), running nearly 90 seconds per mile slower than Boshart but well clear of the rest of the field.

Robert Boshart made the M60-64 race his own from the jump. The 61-year-old Fresno native crossed in 23:19 at a 7:30/mi clip — a pace that left the rest of the group well behind. Runner-up Raul Rodriguez of Clovis posted a solid 27:51, but that still left a 4:32 gap to the winner. Third-place Rich Barnes (40:39) was another 12:48 back, so the podium positions were never really in doubt once the front two separated.

The real drama in this 17-finisher group played out in the mid-to-back pack, where a cluster of six athletes compressed into a span of just 33 seconds between 6th and 9th place. Steven McCain (6th, 48:16), Russ Ellis (7th, 48:26), Sol Aduana (8th, 48:49), and Edgar Aduana (9th, 48:50) all finished within a half-minute of each other. The closest call of the day: the two Aduanas — both from Fresno — separated by a single tick of the clock, with Sol edging Edgar 48:49 to 48:50.

From there, the field spread out over the final stretch of finishers, with David Sarro (11th, 53:01) through Lisa Smith (17th, 1:03:44) covering a range of about ten minutes. Smith, the lone Clovis finisher in that group, brought the M60-64 field home at 1:03:44. Boshart's winning margin over the entire field was a commanding 40:25 — a dominant afternoon for the hometown 61-year-old on the streets of Fresno.
