Two Cities Marathon 5K — F40-44: Nelson Leads a Fresno Sweep of the Podium

• Jennifer Nelson, 44, wins in 29:10 (9:23/mi), holding off Martha Flores by 28 seconds.
• Top three all finished under 30:17, with Setareh Tais rounding out the podium at 30:16.
• Martha Youngblood, 4th in 30:47, was the only top-four finisher not from Fresno — traveling from Aurora, MO.
• Mariella Tapia and Anna Munding both crossed in 32:15, separated only by the timing chip — Tapia edging into 6th, Munding into 7th.

Jennifer Nelson made the F40-44 race her own from the gun, finishing in 29:10 at a 9:23/mi clip to claim the top spot in a field of 68. Martha Flores gave chase and made it close — her 29:38 finish (9:32/mi) was just 28 seconds back — but Nelson had enough in reserve to hold her off. Setareh Tais completed a Fresno-local podium sweep with a 30:16, running 9:45/mi to finish 38 seconds behind Flores. Three Fresno women on the podium in an age group of 68 is a statement for the local running community.

Martha Youngblood was the outlier in the top four — the Aurora, Missouri runner crossed in 30:47 (9:54/mi), finishing a solid 31 seconds behind Tais and more than a minute behind Nelson. From there, a gap opened before Selena Reyes arrived in 32:05 and Mariella Tapia and Anna Munding delivered one of the race's sharpest moments: both clocking 32:15 to the second, with Tapia's chip time nudging her into 6th and Munding into 7th by the narrowest of margins.

The midfield told its own story. Melissa Blau (34:10), Kimberly Rose (34:12), and Jessica Marie Guzman Gutierrez (34:15) formed a tight cluster in 8th through 10th, separated by just five seconds across three finishers. Lizzet Pena followed in 11th at 34:34, and a steady stream of runners carried the race through Toni Bromell's 36:15 in 20th — with 48 more finishers completing the F40-44 field behind her.
