The race's most compelling mid-pack battle unfolded between places 7 and 10, where four Fresno-area women finished within a tight 30-second window. Diana Soares crossed in 47:57, Rosemary Metz followed nine seconds later in 48:06, Irma Rivera was just four more seconds back in 48:10, and Patricia Duran closed the cluster in 48:27. That kind of bunching across four finishers over half a mile of racing tells its own story of a hard-fought stretch run.

Jeanne Cortelyou of Madera, the lone 68-year-old in the top five, finished 5th in 41:49 — a solid effort that stood well clear of 6th-place Lori Massoni's 44:57. At the back of the field, Grace Shimada of Fresno completed the course in 1:10:51, joining all 19 finishers in getting it done on a fall Sunday in Fresno.
