Women's 10K: Michels surges late to claim the top spot in Fresno

The win belonged to her well before the tape.

The story of the early miles was C. Paz — a 10-year-old from Clovis who led the women's race and held that position deep into the race before finishing 2nd in 44:52 (7:13/mi). Paz ran the 5th-fastest closing split among all women, meaning the gap to Michels wasn't a fade so much as a catch-up — Michels simply ran the final stretch faster. Still, a 44:52 finish and a front-running performance from a 10-year-old is the kind of subplot that sticks with you.

Lindsay Dozier rounded out the podium in 46:44 (7:31/mi), also posting the 6th-fastest closing split among the women — a strong finish in her own right.
