Two Cities Marathon 10K — F50-54: Bonner Dominates, Royston Charges Late

• Ana Bonner (1st, 56:15) ran a 9:03/mi average — more than a minute per mile faster than anyone else in the F50-54 field, winning by over six minutes.
• Amy Royston (3rd, 1:03:24) posted the 71st-fastest women's closing split (1M→Finish), edging out the 90th-fastest from Andrea Hearn (4th, 1:05:47) to hold third by 1:23.
• Stephanie Rogers (5th, 1:07:18) entered the women's field in 52nd place at the 1-mile mark — the highest early position among the top five — but faded to 102nd on the closing stretch, finishing at 10:50/mi.
• Diana Millhollin (2nd, 1:02:19) ran the second-fastest time in the group at 10:02/mi, but her closing split ranked 76th among women, as Royston and Hearn both reeled her in late.

Ana Bonner simply had a different gear than everyone else in the F50-54 field on Sunday in Fresno. The Visalia 50-year-old crossed in 56:15 at a 9:03/mi clip — a pace that placed her 20th among all women by the finish, up from 33rd at the one-mile mark. Her winning margin over Diana Millhollin was 6:04, and it wasn't particularly close at any point in the second half of the race.

Behind Bonner, the real drama played out in the battle for the remaining podium spots. Millhollin of Clovis held second in 1:02:19, but her closing leg ranked 76th among women as the field began to close. Royston, meanwhile, was doing the opposite — the Fresno 51-year-old moved from 120th in the women's field at the one-mile mark all the way up to 73rd at the finish, logging the 71st-fastest closing split among women to secure third in 1:03:24. That late charge was enough to hold off Andrea Hearn of Kingsburg, who finished fourth in 1:05:47.

Stephanie Rogers had the most dramatic reversal in the top five. She sat 52nd among women through the first mile — comfortably inside the top half of the women's field — but slipped to 102nd on the closing stretch, finishing fifth in 1:07:18 at 10:50/mi. The gap from fifth to sixth was sizable: Martina V. Navarrete of Coalinga crossed in 1:10:24 in sixth, with Amanda Peterson (1:10:52, 7th) and Gladys Prado (1:11:00, 8th) rounding out a tight cluster just behind her across a 34-finisher F50-54 field.
