Two Cities Marathon 10K — F15-19: Lugo runs away with it

• Emma Lugo (Sanger, CA) won the F15-19 age group in 1:03:52 — more than 25 minutes clear of the field.
• Lugo's 1M→Finish split ranked 81st among all women, the fastest closing split in the F15-19 group.
• Crystal Lopez faded on the back half, dropping from 131st to 306th among women — the sharpest slide in the group.
• Four finishers completed the F15-19 field, ranging from Lugo's 10:17/mi to Seerat Kang's 1:45:02.

Emma Lugo made the F15-19 race her own from start to finish. The 18-year-old from Sanger crossed in 1:03:52 at a 10:17/mi clip — a pace that put her 81st among all women on the 1M-to-finish stretch and left the rest of the age group well behind. Her 25-minute-plus margin over second place wasn't a close contest; it was a statement.

Samantha Wheeler of Fresno took second in 1:29:43 (14:26/mi), and her back half told a quietly encouraging story — she moved from 297th to 273rd among women on the closing stretch, gaining ground where it counted. Crystal Lopez of Selma finished third in 1:36:13 but ran the second half considerably harder on the legs than the first, sliding from 131st to 306th among women after the opening mile — a fade of more than 175 spots in the women's field that turned a promising position into a tough finish.

Rounding out the group, 15-year-old Seerat Kang of Clovis crossed in 1:45:02 at 16:54/mi — the youngest in the field and still moving at the line, finishing 347th among women on the closing segment. With three years of eligibility still ahead in this age group, today's effort is a starting point worth building on.
