Men's 10K: Barnett dominates a deep Fresno field

• Joey Barnett won the men's race in 35:48 (5:46/mi), nearly a minute clear of the field.
• Courtney Curtis, 41, finished 2nd in 36:34 — the top masters performer among the men.
• Landon York, 20, rounded out the podium in 37:16 — the three leaders finished within 88 seconds of each other and well ahead of 4th place.
• A remarkable youth presence: E. Cuellar (age 12) finished 8th in 43:44, and L. Sran (age 11) placed 18th in 48:07, while 68-year-old Chuck Fiorentino clocked 48:29 for 19th.

Joey Barnett set the tone from the gun and never let go of it. His 35:48 — a 5:46/mi clip — was the class of a 197-man field, and his lead held at 1st from start to finish. Runner-up Courtney Curtis, the 41-year-old from Fresno, gave chase in 36:34 (5:53/mi), a strong effort that kept the gap to 46 seconds. Landon York of Georgetown held 3rd throughout, crossing in 37:16 at a 5:60/mi pace to complete a podium that was settled well before the finish line.

The real drama began at 4th place, where three men — Syrus Khwaja (42:19), Brian Kiler (42:30), and Oscar Rosales (42:33) — finished within 14 seconds of each other after more than six miles of racing. Khwaja, just 14 years old, edged out the 47-year-old Kiler by 11 seconds and Rosales by 14, a tight three-way battle that played out at roughly 6:49–6:51/mi.

Perhaps the most eye-catching subplot was the youth on display throughout the men's field. Four finishers were 14 or younger: Khwaja (4th, 42:19), E. Cuellar (8th, 43:44), Alexander Schick (13, 9th in 44:28), Tyler Teddleton (13th, 46:12), and Eli Ocampo (15th, 47:01). On the other end of the age spectrum, Chuck Fiorentino ran 48:29 at age 68 to place 19th — a reminder that in a field of 197, the stories stretch well beyond the podium.
