The 41-year-old Fresno native ran 36:34 — a 5:53/mi clip that not only topped the M40-44 group but ranked 4th among all women on the closing stretch to the finish. No one in this age group came close to threatening that pace; Jorge Benitez's 45:04 in 2nd was a full 8:30 back, and Ahmad Ibrahim rounded out the podium in 49:47 at 8:01/mi.

The real drama in this 24-finisher group played out in the middle of the pack. Teng Vang and Hue Vang both turned in strong second halves, each climbing more than 20 spots among women between the 1-mile mark and the finish. Teng's surge from 78th to 53rd in the women's field edged out Hue's move from 81st to 62nd, and that momentum showed on the clock — Teng finished 4th in 57:45, with Hue and A. Sali both stopping the clock at 58:39 for 5th and 6th.

From Sergio Valdez's 1:00:17 in 7th through Randy and Matt Thompson's matching 1:12:32 in 13th and 14th, the middle of the field spread across a wide range of paces. Kevin Blackney (8th, 1:03:11), Hector Lugo (9th, 1:03:52), and kevin ouma (10th, 1:04:53) bunched within about 90 seconds of each other, while the back half of the listed finishers stretched out to Ben Litwack's 1:26:07 in 20th — a reminder of just how broad a tent the M40-44 group pitched on the streets of Fresno.
