Fuentes did fade slightly in the men's field over the closing stretch, slipping from 413th to 443rd among men on the 10K-to-finish segment, but that tells you more about how the broader field surged late than about any loss of form from the leader.

Shepard (2:38:56) and Schweizer (2:46:42) ran a clean 1-2 in the Coarsegold contingent — two men from the same small Sierra Nevada foothill town finishing second and third in the same age group. Shepard's 12:07/mi pace held a comfortable cushion over Schweizer's 12:43/mi, and neither was seriously threatened for their respective spots.

The most interesting tactical move in the back half came from John Hollingsworth of Fowler, who finished fourth in 2:50:25. Robert Pankratz (5th, 3:24:39, 15:37/mi) and Jay Madhure (6th, 3:40:10, 16:48/mi) completed the field, with Madhure's 3:40 representing a 1:12:38 gap back to the winner — a reminder of how wide the competitive range can be when six men in their mid-to-late 70s line up and simply get it done.
