Two Cities Half Marathon F20-24: Wing holds on as Zarate storms the back half

Corina Wing crossed in 1:46:28 at 8:07/mi to claim the F20-24 title, but she had to work for it. Leslie Zarate, running at 8:08/mi, was right on her heels at the finish — a 5-second gap that tells only part of the story. Zarate moved from 27th to 23rd among women on the 10K→Finish leg, posting the 20th-fastest women's split on that segment. Wing's own closing stretch ranked 24th among women — slightly slower than Zarate's — meaning Zarate was actively closing. The finish time was nearly the same; the effort in the second half was not. Wing simply had enough of a cushion built to hold on.

Sydney Falk rounded out the podium in 1:47:14 (8:11/mi), finishing 46 seconds behind Wing and posting the 23rd-fastest women's closing split. But the story of the second half belonged to Toni Payton. Starting the 10K→Finish segment in 41st place among women, Payton ran the 19th-fastest closing split in the women's field to vault to 27th — a charge that landed her 4th in the age group at 1:47:55. She ran down Falk by only 41 seconds, but the trajectory was unmistakable.

Adeline Fuller rounded out the top five in 1:48:19 (8:16/mi), though her 33rd-fastest women's closing split suggests she held steady rather than surged. Behind her, the field spread out considerably — Kaminsky's 1:53:12 in 6th marked a 4-minute-53-second gap to 5th, and Katie Weimer's 1:59:28 in 7th was the first finish beyond the two-hour mark. In all, 45 women finished the F20-24 age group at Two Cities, with the top five packed into just under two minutes of racing.
