Two Cities Half Marathon M60-64: Keplinger Dominates at 64

• Steve Keplinger won the M60-64 group in 1:48:13 (8:15/mi), finishing more than 5 minutes clear of runner-up Javier Cruz.
• Cruz (1:53:37) held 2nd comfortably, with Oscar Guzman 3rd in 2:00:14 — the only other finisher to break two hours.
• 4th and 5th were decided by just 33 seconds: Mark Gonzales (2:05:38) edged Chia Vang (2:06:11), both age 60.
• 24 men finished in M60-64, with times ranging from 1:48:13 to well past 2:57 for 20th-place Louie Cayabyab.

Steve Keplinger, the oldest man on the M60-64 podium at 64, ran the most commanding race in the group. His 8:15/mi average wasn't just fast — it was a full 25 seconds per mile quicker than Cruz's 8:40/mi, and that gap compounded over 13.1 miles into a 5:24 winning margin. He also gained ground in the men's field during the second half, moving from 125th to 122nd among men on the 10K-to-finish stretch — a sign he was running through the field late, not fading.

Cruz, for his part, ran a solid 1:53:37 but lost places in the men's field over that same closing stretch, sliding from 135th to 177th among men after the 10K mark — a fade that Keplinger's surge made look even sharper by contrast. Guzman (2:00:14, 9:10/mi) was the only other finisher to crack two hours, landing 3rd with a comfortable cushion over the rest of the field.

The real drama played out in the 4th-and-5th battle. Gonzales and Vang — both 60, both from Clovis or Fresno — ran nearly in lockstep, with Gonzales holding on for 4th by 33 seconds. Behind them, Eric Montie rounded out the top six in 2:07:23. The middle of the field spread wide after that, with 7th through 20th covering a span of more than 50 minutes, from William Aravanis's 2:14:13 down to Louie Cayabyab's 2:57:16 in 20th.
