Shamrock 8K: Elvira Ramirez Leads the F80-99 Field Home

• Charlotte Rhodes, 84, claimed second in 1:28:41, with Pat Donohue just 1:30 behind her in third — the tightest gap on the podium.
• Ellen Stott, 84, finished fourth in 1:31:59, less than 2 minutes back of Donohue, keeping the middle of the field closely bunched.
• Gail Oberta, 81, rounded out all five finishers in 1:38:27, completing the F80-99 field on a mild but humid Virginia Beach morning.

Five women in their eighties toed the line at the Shamrock 8K, and Elvira Ramirez of Virginia Beach made it look authoritative. Running at a 16:04-per-mile pace, the 81-year-old put daylight between herself and the field early and never relinquished it, crossing in 1:19:53 — a margin of more than eight minutes over second place. That gap is the story at the front.

Behind Ramirez, the race was considerably tighter. Charlotte Rhodes, an 84-year-old from S Prince George, finished second in 1:28:41, with Richmond's Pat Donohue — also 81 — arriving in 1:30:11, just 90 seconds later. Ellen Stott, another 84-year-old and a fellow Virginia Beach local, was a further 1:48 back in fourth at 1:31:59. Those three were separated by under three and a half minutes across a span of 8 kilometers — a genuine battle for the middle positions.

Gail Oberta made the trip from The Hills, Texas, and brought the group home in fifth, finishing in 1:38:27 at a 19:48-per-mile pace. With five women aged 81 to 84 completing an 8K on a 62-degree, humid mid-March morning, the F80-99 group delivered a full and competitive field — and Ramirez gave them a clear champion.
