Two Cities Marathon 5K — M55-59: Flores Runs Away With It

• Pablo Flores, 57, wins in 27:11 (8:45/mi) — nearly three minutes clear of the field.
• Erik Peterson (30:00) and Eddy Bloodgood (30:18) battle for the podium, separated by just 18 seconds.
• Martin Montoya and Douglas Tiu, both 55 from Crosby, TX, finish back-to-back in 15th and 16th — 1:22:38 and 1:22:39, one second apart.
• 18 finishers completed the M55-59 race, spanning a range of nearly 1 hour and 18 minutes from first to last.

Pablo Flores of Clovis made the M55-59 race his own from the start. His 27:11 at 8:45/mi was a full 2:49 faster than anyone else in the group — a dominant margin that left no drama at the front. At 57, Flores was one of the older men on the podium, which makes the performance all the more striking.

Behind him, the real competition played out between Erik Peterson of Fresno and Eddy Bloodgood of Clovis. Peterson crossed in 30:00 at 9:39/mi to claim second, with Bloodgood just 18 seconds back at 30:18 (9:45/mi) for third. That's a genuine catch-up story compressed into 3.1 miles — Peterson held the faster average pace, but Bloodgood kept it close enough to make the podium a real race. Fourth went to an anonymous 59-year-old finisher in 33:10, another three minutes back.

The middle of the field spread out considerably, with Mitch Gaasch (5th, 36:41) and Salinder Narr (6th, 41:05) marking a widening gap before Mark Gibson (7th, 42:00) and Phil Roberts (8th, 43:15) rounded out the top eight. Rick Huntress (9th, 48:22) through Steve McCain (14th, 1:01:08) filled out a steady mid-pack.

The most eye-catching footnote belongs to Martin Montoya and Douglas Tiu, both 55 and both from Crosby, TX — finishing 15th and 16th in 1:22:38 and 1:22:39 respectively. One second separated them at the line. Benedict Villanueva (17th, 1:41:59) and Bobby Valite (18th, 1:44:59) closed out the group, completing an M55-59 field that covered every corner of the effort spectrum.
