M40-44: Moore Dominates a Clovis-Heavy 5K Field

Nathaniel Moore put on a clinic in the M40-44 age group, crossing in 17:17 at a 5:34/mi clip — a pace that left the rest of the field well behind from the start. His margin of victory over Sergio Perez was a commanding 3 minutes and 46 seconds, the kind of gap that makes a 5K feel like a different race entirely. At age 40, Moore was the youngest man on the podium, and he made it count.

Perez (21:03, 6:47/mi) and Rubenstein (23:06, 7:26/mi) filled out the top three, both also representing Clovis. The battle for 4th was the tightest moment of the day: Lue Xiong (24:23) and Armando Castillo (24:28) were separated by just five seconds across 3.1 miles, with Xiong holding on for 4th. Pedro Moreno of Parlier finished 6th in 26:46, the only top-six finisher from outside Clovis.

The middle and back of the 21-man field spread across a wide range of efforts, from John Barbery's 7th-place 27:12 down to a finishing stretch that saw several runners clustered in the 35–38 minute range. Bobby Rodriguez (38:28) and Adam Gillanders (38:25) finished 20th and 19th respectively, separated by just three seconds, while one additional finisher rounds out the full group. All told, it was a field that covered a lot of ground — literally and figuratively — across the San Joaquin Valley.
