Shamrock'n 10K: Sara Wolf dominates the F40-44 field

• Sara Wolf won the F40-44 age group in 41:32 (6:41/mi), holding 2nd among all women from start to finish and posting the 3rd-fastest women's split on the back half.
• Elza Kavanaugh, 44, climbed from 23rd to 15th among women in the second 5K, powering to 3rd in the age group with the 14th-fastest women's split on that segment.
• Analisa Martinez made the biggest move of anyone in the group — surging from 48th to 24th among women in the second half, with the 16th-fastest women's split on 5K→Finish to land 5th.
• Katie Geisen and Jennifer Stroh finished 18th and 19th separated by just 0.20 seconds — same displayed time of 59:10, with the chip deciding it.

Sara Wolf put on a clinic. Running 6:41 per mile across 6.2 miles in cool, calm conditions, she was never seriously threatened — sitting 2nd among all women through the first 5K and never budging from that spot. Her 3rd-fastest women's split on the back half confirmed she wasn't just holding on; she was still pressing. The gap to runner-up Heather Hansen was a commanding 6:03, and Hansen herself ran a composed race, moving from 13th to 11th among women in the second half to claim 2nd in the age group at 47:35.

The real drama unfolded in the chase pack. Elza Kavanaugh, the oldest finisher on the podium at 44, reeled in eight women in the women's field over the back half to secure 3rd at 50:24. Right behind her, Marie Mitchell and Analisa Martinez were locked in a battle — Mitchell had the edge at the 5K, but Martinez's blazing second half (16th-fastest women's split in the field on that segment) wasn't quite enough, with Mitchell holding on by 21 seconds for 4th at 51:40.

Further back, the finish-line timing system earned its keep. Katie Geisen and Jennifer Stroh crossed in what looks like the same 59:10 on the clock, but two-tenths of a second separated them — Geisen in 18th, Stroh in 19th. In a field of 117 in the F40-44 age group, every fraction counts.
