Shamrock'n 10K M25-29: Rogerson Runs Away With It

• Josh Rogerson won the M25-29 age group in 34:03 (5:29/mi), posting the fastest second-half split among all men in the field.
• Declan Molony was a clear runner-up at 39:34 — a 5:31 gap back from Rogerson, but a comfortable 1:51 ahead of third.
• Sam Grunklee (41:25) and Christian Guzman (41:37) were separated by just 12 seconds for 3rd and 4th, with Jonathan Cheng (41:54) another 17 seconds back in 5th — three men within 29 seconds of each other.
• The top-5 cutoff sat at 41:54; the next finisher, Russell Vuong (6th, 45:27), was more than three and a half minutes behind Cheng.

Josh Rogerson, making the trip down from Colorado Springs, was never seriously threatened. He held the men's overall lead from start to finish and backed it up with the fastest men's split on the back half of the course — a 5:29/mi average that was in a different gear from everyone else in the M25-29 field of 91. Declan Molony, the top local finisher out of Sacramento, ran a solid 6:22/mi to claim second, but the race for the win was never really a race at all.

The real drama played out behind Molony. Grunklee, Guzman, and Cheng ran the second half in remarkably close order — Cheng actually posted the 13th-fastest back-half split among men, edging out Guzman's 15th and Grunklee's 16th — yet it was Grunklee who held on for 3rd. The order was decided by what happened in the first 5K, not the second. Twelve seconds and 29 seconds: that's the full margin separating the 3rd-, 4th-, and 5th-place finishers across 6.2 miles on a cool, clear Sacramento morning.

After that tight cluster, the field spread out considerably. Vuong's 45:27 in 6th represented a gap of over three and a half minutes from 5th — a clear break point in the M25-29 race. From there, Rodney Abregano (7th, 45:48), Eytan Wallace (8th, 46:01), and Collin Berninger (9th, 46:25) formed their own close grouping within 37 seconds of each other, giving the mid-pack its own quiet battle worth noting.
