That margin isn't enormous, but in a 5K it's decisive — Powell, an 11-year-old from the host city, never quite closed the gap.

What made the podium especially compelling was Rowan Rathbun. The 10-year-old from El Dorado Hills ran 21:21 at 6:52/mi to claim 3rd, outrunning every 12-year-old in the field except the winner. That's not a footnote — it's the story within the story. After the top three, the field spread out noticeably: 4th-place Eli Horn finished in 23:02, a full 1:41 behind Rathbun.

Further down the results, the range of ages produced some genuinely impressive showings.
