Shamrock'n 5K: Lukianoff dominates the F60-64 age group

• Barbara Lukianoff won the F60-64 age group in 26:37 — an 8:34/mi pace that put her 1:31 clear of second place.
• The podium was decided by 2:10 from top to bottom: Lukianoff (26:37), Thompson (28:08), Glick (28:47).
• Places 6 through 9 were a genuine traffic jam: Lucero-Wehner, Medina, Green, and Fitzpatrick all finished within 13 seconds of each other, from 32:50 to 33:03.
• 93 women finished in the F60-64 age group, ranging from Lukianoff's 26:37 down to the back of a field that stretched well past 39 minutes.

Barbara Lukianoff of Cool, CA made the F60-64 race look almost straightforward. Her 26:37 — 8:34 per mile on a cool, breezy St. Patrick's Day morning in West Sacramento — was a full 91 seconds faster than anyone else in the age group. That kind of margin doesn't happen by accident; it's the product of a pace that most in this field simply couldn't match from the gun.

Behind her, Anne Thompson of Sacramento and Patty Glick of Folsom ran a clean, honest race for the remaining podium spots. Thompson's 28:08 (9:03/mi) held off Glick's 28:47 (9:16/mi) by 39 seconds — comfortable enough to be decisive, close enough that Glick would have needed something extra to close it. Ramona Blount of Sacramento came home 4th in 30:20, a further 1:33 back, and Fely Tanahashi of Auburn rounded out the top five in 31:08.

The most entertaining stretch of the race was the battle for 6th through 9th. Diana Lucero-Wehner, Liza Medina, Pam Green, and Lisa Fitzpatrick covered just 13 seconds across four finishers — 32:50, 32:54, 33:03, and 33:18 — suggesting a genuine pack that ran together for much of the 5K before the finishing straight sorted them out. Krista Christian (33:40) and Laura Uslan (33:51) weren't far behind, keeping the pressure on all the way to 11th place.
