Christina Mullins, 23, from Elk Grove, was never seriously threatened. Her 7:53-per-mile pace put her in a different conversation from the rest of the F19-24 field, and by the finish line, the 24-second margin over Zada Smallwood told the story cleanly: this was her race from the front.

Smallwood, 24, from Citrus Heights, was the only runner who came within a minute of Mullins, clocking 24:53 at 8:01/mi. She secured 2nd comfortably, but the real drama for the podium played out behind her. Emma Harris, also 23, came home in 26:55 — a full two minutes and two seconds after Smallwood — to claim 3rd, with Valeria Montes (27:42) and Brecken Bartells (28:02) rounding out the top five within a tight 20-second window of each other.

Further back, the mid-pack produced its own close racing. Heidy Hernandez (29:16) edged Danae Decker (29:36) by 20 seconds for 9th, while Tricia Sarmiento (29:55) and Lianelle Cister (30:46) anchored the top 13. With 70 more finishers beyond the top 20, the F19-24 group was one of the day's deeper age groups — but on this March morning in West Sacramento, the headline was simple: Mullins led, and nobody came close.
