Shamrock'n 5K F30-34: Deloney Dominates in Sub-19

Erin Deloney ran a race in a different category altogether. Her 18:31 — a 5:58/mi clip on a cool, clear St. Patrick's Day morning in West Sacramento — left the rest of the F30-34 field 2 minutes and 56 seconds behind. That's not a win; that's a statement. In a group of 216 finishers, Deloney was simply operating at another level.

Behind her, Andrea Guggenbickler (21:27) and Meghan Fornaro (22:16) ran a clean podium race of their own, with Guggenbickler holding a 49-second cushion over Fornaro at the line. The gap between 2nd and 3rd was comfortable enough that neither finish was ever truly in doubt in the final stretch.

The real drama unfolded in the battle for 4th through 8th. Paola Sotelo, Kristin Smith, Tiarra Edgar, Crystal Harris, and Justine Kruger all crossed within 25 seconds of each other — Smith edging Edgar by 9 seconds, Edgar edging Harris by 3, Harris edging Kruger by 5. Every position in that cluster had to be earned. Further back, Ng and McKay's near-identical 28:0x finishes added one more tight subplot to a race full of them.
