• Conditions were no joke: 67°F, 83% humidity, and a 15 mph wind made for a legitimately demanding morning in Cleveland.

Elizabeth Song showed up, and that was enough — and then some. As the sole finisher in the 55-59 age group at the Cleveland Marathon 5K, Song claimed the top spot by default, but default doesn't mean easy. She covered the course in 48:16, averaging 15:32 per mile through a humid, breezy Cleveland morning that had no interest in making things comfortable.

With humidity at 83% and wind gusting to 15 mph under an overcast sky, the conditions were the real competition on May 16th. Song, 56, from nearby Solon, navigated all of it and got to the finish line. In a race, sometimes that's the whole story — and it's a good one.
