Brittain Elswick, 32, from just down the road in Cleveland Heights, was the sole representative of the M30-34 age group at the Cleveland Marathon 10K — and he made sure that group had a finisher to be proud of.

Elswick covered the course in 1:12:31, holding an 11:40-per-mile pace through conditions that weren't doing anyone any favors. With humidity sitting at 83% and a 15 mph wind pushing across the course, the air felt heavier than the temperature alone suggested. Grinding through that on the streets of Cleveland takes real commitment, whatever the size of the field around you.
