Cleveland 10K: Raymond rules F40-44 with a commanding wire-to-wire win

• The middle pack compressed: places 6 through 9 — Kerns, Spear, Cugini, and Vargo — were covered by just over two and a half minutes (52:03 to 54:35).

Humid and breezy conditions — 83% humidity and a 15 mph wind on a 67°F morning — made this a day where discipline mattered as much as fitness, and Emily Raymond of Gates Mills had both. The 44-year-old ran 6:51 per mile from start to finish, crossing in 42:33 and leaving no doubt about who owned this age group. Her 57-second margin over Michelle Hrehocik (43:30, 7:00/mi) was decisive — this wasn't a race that came down to the closing stretch.

Hrehocik, also 40, was the clear second-best on the day and the top finisher among the younger end of the group. Behind her, the battle for the final podium spot was the race's most competitive subplot. Lakewood's Katie Szefcyk (45:55) held off Shaker Heights' Katherine Wozniak (46:16) by 21 seconds for 3rd, with both women running in the 7:23–7:27/mi range. Strongsville's Holly Zadony rounded out the top five at 47:41 — a solid 7:40/mi effort in the conditions.

Further back, a tight cluster formed through positions six through nine. Megan Kerns (52:03) led that group, followed by Kelly Spear (53:16), Francesca Cugini (54:13), and Gretchen Vargo (54:35) — four athletes within 2:32 of each other. The F40-44 field of 63 was deep and competitive, and on a morning that pushed back with wind and humidity, every one of those finishes earned.
