Matthew Roberts made this one look almost unfair. The 42-year-old from Williamson ran 19:35 — a 6:18/mi average — and crossed the line more than a minute and seventeen seconds ahead of anyone else in the M40-44 field. In a race where seconds matter and the humidity was already working against everyone, that kind of margin is a statement.

Behind him, Rob Fisher from Oregonia, OH claimed 2nd in 20:52, running a solid 6:43/mi to keep the podium honest. Adam Dembrow (3rd, 21:49) closed out the top three at 7:01/mi, and then the race got tight fast: Michael Daly finished 4th in 21:58 and Matthew Downs — the hometown entrant from Utica — rounded out the top five in 22:03, the two of them separated by just five seconds after 3.1 miles.

The middle of the field told its own story. Tim Romeo (6th, 23:20) put a 1:17 gap between himself and 7th-place Jeremy Williams (23:58), while Daniel Patterson (8th, 24:04), Ryan Nolan (9th, 24:15), and Louis Baldanza (10th, 24:22) bunched into an 18-second window. Further back, Kevin Kuegler (12th, 24:51), Clarence Laparr (13th, 24:54), and Chad Williams (11th, 24:47) were all within single-digit seconds of each other — a quiet little battle that the clock captured even if the finish-line crowd didn't.
