Her closing split from 10K to the finish ranked 426th in the entire women's field — a genuine surge when many were fading in the humidity. Nearly five minutes separated her from second place.

Beverly Whalen of Farmington, NY had a different kind of race. She came through the first 5K in strong position — 483rd among women — but the middle segment was her toughest stretch, posting the 843rd-fastest women's split from 5K to 10K as the field closed around her.
