Arlene Coulter, 75, out of Fort Meade, FL, was in command from the opening miles and never let up. She crossed in 1:43:45 at an 11:08/mi clip — a convincing margin that told the story of a front-runner who ran her own race. Her 5K→10K split ranked 1,940th among all women in the field, reflecting steady, purposeful effort through the thickest part of the course. Kathy Spiak, 76, of Rensselaer Falls, NY, held 2nd throughout, finishing in 1:49:12 — a 5:27 gap to Coulter, but an even larger 11:22 cushion over the rest of the field. Spiak actually moved up in the women's standings between the 5K and 10K marks, a sign she was running with real control in the heat.

Behind them, the race for the final podium spots had its own drama. Janet Balderston (2:00:34, 12:56/mi) and Ginny Pezzula (2:05:36, 13:29/mi) both produced their sharpest splits on the back half — Pezzula's 10K→Finish segment ranking 2,312th among women, faster than Balderston's 2,504th on that same stretch — meaning Pezzula was closing the gap late, even as Balderston held on for 3rd. Georgiana Gladstone, 75, finished 5th in 2:07:08 but faded on the 5K→10K leg, where her split ranked 3,250th among women — the toughest stretch of the day for her. Peg McKeever (2:09:25) and Margaret Jevens (2:23:11) rounded out the seven, both completing a 15K in conditions that asked plenty of everyone.
