Boilermaker 15K F45-49: Hatfield runs down the field

• Amanda Hatfield (Naples, FL) wins F45-49 in 1:05:21 (7:01/mi), climbing from 446th among women at the first checkpoint all the way to 63rd by the finish.
• Karen Becker (Travelers Rest, SC) takes 2nd in 1:06:38 — a 1:17 gap back — after posting the 73rd-fastest women's split on the 5K–10K middle segment.
• Hannah Petroni (Cleveland, OH) rounds out the podium in 3rd at 1:09:27, closing with the 108th-fastest women's split on the second half to finish 2:49 behind Becker.
• Positions 6 and 7 — Suzanne Garrett and Marie-Josee Larocque — both clocked 1:11:17 (7:39/mi), with timing deciding the order between them.

On a humid July morning in Utica — 88% humidity and barely a breath of wind — 274 women in the F45-49 field toed the line. Amanda Hatfield made the most dramatic statement of anyone in the group. She was buried in 446th among women through the first checkpoint, but by 10K she had surged to 108th, and she crossed the finish line 63rd among all women — a climb of 383 places across the women's field over the course of 15 kilometers. Her winning time of 1:05:21 was backed by the 48th-fastest women's split on the 10K-to-finish stretch, meaning she saved some of her sharpest running for when it counted most.

Karen Becker, 49, made her own move through the middle miles, posting the 73rd-fastest women's split on the 5K–10K segment and rising from 422nd to 80th among women by the finish. She crossed in 1:06:38 — 1:17 behind Hatfield — to claim 2nd. Hannah Petroni of Cleveland added a strong second half to land 3rd in 1:09:27, while Jocelyn Stark (Ithaca, NY) and Julie Jeannotte (Remsen, NY) kept the pressure on in 4th (1:10:07) and 5th (1:11:07) respectively.

The battle for 6th through 9th was the tightest cluster of the day. Suzanne Garrett and Marie-Josee Larocque — both from Ontario — finished in an identical displayed time of 1:11:17, with the timing system separating them by the narrowest of margins for 6th and 7th. Mary Lawrence (1:11:32) and Jenny Hanmer (1:11:33) followed just 15 and 16 seconds later, making it four athletes within 16 seconds across four consecutive places.
