The margin over runner-up Edgar Bolanos Molina — 6:29 — wasn't a photo finish; it was a statement. Bolanos Molina, 28, of Clovis, was equally unthreatened in 2nd, running the second-fastest men's split through 10K and finishing in 1:12:58 (5:34/mi) with his place never in doubt.

The race's most compelling subplot belonged to Sam Hawley. The 23-year-old Fresno native was sitting 10th among men at the 1-mile mark, but he ran the third-fastest men's split through 10K to surge into 3rd — a position he locked down all the way to the finish in 1:16:03 (5:48/mi). Just behind him, Brock Becker (4th, 1:17:09) and Justin Patananan (5th, 1:17:43) ran within 34 seconds of each other over the full 13.1 miles. Patananan, at 44, had actually held 3rd through the early going before Hawley's surge pushed him back — a reminder that the Central Valley front pack brought genuine competition at every age.
