• Zoldak was the mover in that trio, climbing from outside the top 80 men to 74th on the middle segment before fading slightly — Vera and Cheng both ran him down on the closing stretch.

Tony Gair Chavez of Clovis put on a commanding performance from start to finish. Running 6:51 per mile, he was never seriously threatened — his gap over Tafolla at the line was a substantial 2:18, and his closing segment was sharp enough to rank among the 35th-fastest splits on the 10K-to-finish stretch in the men's field. He moved steadily through the men's race, climbing from 44th at the 10K checkpoint all the way to 37th by the finish, picking off runners in the back half.

Tafolla (7:02/mi) kept things honest in second, posting the 52nd-fastest men's split on the opening 1M-to-10K segment to cement his position. But the real drama in this age group played out just behind him. Cheng, Zoldak, and Vera were essentially racing each other across the final miles, running 7:34, 7:35, and 7:36 per mile respectively. Zoldak had surged hardest on the middle leg — climbing from 83rd to 74th in the men's field — but Cheng and Vera answered on the back half. Cheng crossed 3rd in 1:39:07, Zoldak 4th in 1:39:27, and Vera 5th in 1:39:37. Twenty seconds covered all three.

Further back, Patrick O'Rourke (6th, 1:44:12) and John Perez (7th, 1:44:40) were separated by just 28 seconds, while Greg Addington (8th, 1:46:27) and Cesar Zavalza (9th, 1:46:41) ran nearly stride for stride. The M50-54 group kept things competitive deep into the results — all 20 listed finishers came home under the two-hour mark.
