F50-54 Half Marathon: Herrera Dominates at 54

• Silvia Patricia Herrera won the F50-54 group in 1:42:24 (7:49/mi), the only finisher in the field to break 1:45.
• Francine Rodriguez was 1:43 back in 2nd at 1:44:07 (7:57/mi); the two Clovis-area runners separated by just over a minute at the top.
• Kim Haar pulled off the biggest climb of the day, moving from 163rd among women at the 1-mile mark all the way to 93rd by the finish — a relentless second-half charge to 4th in 1:59:12.
• Stephanie Gendron ran the opposite arc, fading from 64th among women to 114th, finishing 5th in 2:01:21.

Silvia Patricia Herrera of Exeter made a statement at age 54 — the oldest athlete on the F50-54 podium — posting a 7:49/mi average that no one in the group could touch. She came through the early miles near the front of the women's field, sitting 5th among women at the 1-mile mark before settling back to 21st by the 10K. That positioning tells its own story: Herrera went out with genuine pace and held enough of it to win the age group by nearly two minutes. Francine Rodriguez of Clovis gave chase with a solid 7:57/mi effort, finishing 2nd in 1:44:07, but Herrera had too much of a cushion to threaten.

Third place went to Seventhia Johnston of Chowchilla in 1:49:25 (8:21/mi), completing a clear top-three tier before a six-minute gap back to 4th. The real drama in the middle of the field came from Kim Haar, who started the race deep in the women's field — 163rd among women after the first mile — and ground her way forward all afternoon. Her 69th-fastest split among women from 10K to the finish powered her to 4th place in 1:59:12, one of the more determined performances of the day.

Gendron's 5th-place finish in 2:01:21 came with a very different trajectory — she was 64th among women at the mile before fading to 114th by the end, meaning Haar's surge was very much a catch-up story. Behind them, Yolanda Martinez (6th, 2:05:34), Amy Morris (7th, 2:10:34), and Catherine Clifton (8th, 2:11:43) led a tight cluster through the back half of the top ten, with just 10 seconds separating 8th from 9th-place Michele Armbruster (2:12:17) and 10th-place Melissa Murray (2:13:56) close behind at 2:13:56.
