M45-49 at Two Cities Marathon 10K: Kiler Dominates in Fresno Heat

Brian Kiler made the M45-49 race his own from the gun. Running 6:53 per mile in 74°F Fresno heat, the San Carlos native crossed in 42:49 — a margin so large over the field that second place, John English of Fresno, didn't finish until 54:16. That's an 11-minute-and-27-second gap in a 10K, which is about as decisive as it gets. Kiler also moved from 22nd to 11th among men on that final mile segment, underlining that his closing speed was very much intact.

The most dramatic story in the group belonged to Isaac Gonzalez. The 45-year-old from Fresno was positioned 2nd among men heading into the 1M→Finish segment — a stunning early position — but his closing split ranked 227th among men in the field, and he tumbled all the way to 108th in the men's race by the finish line. He still held on for 3rd in M45-49 at 56:29, but it was a hard-earned podium spot. Derek Fukuda (57:15) and Alonso Agredano (58:09) gave chase without quite closing the gap.

Behind the podium, the middle of the M45-49 pack was tightly bunched. Armando Parra, Estevan Romero, and Jeff Klassen were separated by just over two minutes across 6th through 8th, all finishing between 58:42 and 1:01:31. With 24 finishers completing the race on a warm Central Valley morning, this was a solid and competitive showing across the age group — even if Kiler made the top of the leaderboard look a little lonely.
