Two Cities Marathon 10K — F55-59: Mary Ford Runs Down the Field

• Mary Ford won the F55-59 group in 1:00:31 (9:44/mi), climbing from 149th to 95th among women in the final stretch — the strongest finishing surge on the 1M→Finish segment among the top three.
• The podium gap: Audrey Monke was 34 seconds back in 2nd; Jodi Volkman another 28 seconds behind in 3rd — both also charging through the women's field in that closing mile.
• Martha Soto was the one notable reversal: she entered the final mile in 135th among women and faded to 162nd, the only top-five finisher to lose ground late.
• 25 women completed the F55-59 race; the top three finished within 1:02 of each other, while a 28-minute gap separated the podium from the back of the listed field.

Mary Ford, 59, of Clovis, took the F55-59 title with a 1:00:31 — running 9:44 per mile on a warm November morning in Fresno. Her finishing kick was real: she moved from 149th to 95th among women over the final mile, a gain of 54 places that speaks to a well-paced early effort and a strong close. Neighbor and fellow Clovis runner Audrey Monke (1:01:05, 9:50/mi) gave chase, also surging from 160th to 106th among women — but 34 seconds was too much ground to make up.

Jodi Volkman of Fresno rounded out the podium in 1:01:33, also moving forward in that closing stretch, climbing from 173rd to 108th among women. The top three were remarkably tightly bunched — just 62 seconds covering all three — and all three were still accelerating when it mattered most.

Fourth place told a different story. Martha Soto (1:06:05) had been running in 135th among women through much of the race but dropped to 162nd by the finish, suggesting she spent herself earlier than the podium trio. Olayinka Omololu rounded out the top five in 1:08:41, steady throughout but unable to close the 4:30 gap to Soto. Behind them, Kristin Sanders and Theresa Marquez Barboza were separated by just 12 seconds at 6th and 7th — one of the tightest battles in the group outside the podium itself.
