The 40-year-old from Baltimore ran 5:26 per mile through heat, humidity, and a stiff headwind to win the M40-44 group by over four minutes — a margin that tells you everything. He held 6th among all men through the opening 15K, then moved to 4th in the men's field and stayed there, posting the fastest men's split on the 10K-to-15K segment in the process. In a 296-person age group, that kind of separation is rare.

Behind Rowe, Michael Harlow of Glen Allen ran a controlled 1:15:34 to lock up 2nd without drama, posting the 8th-fastest men's split on the 5K-to-10K stretch. The real theater was further back: Ryan Dague came on strong late, recording the 19th-fastest men's split on the 15K-to-20K segment and climbing from 32nd to 24th among all men to claim 3rd in 1:18:21. Matthew Joosse, who had been tracking ahead of Dague through mid-race, faded slightly in the back half and finished 15 seconds behind in 1:18:36 — enough for 4th, but just barely.

The battle for 5th was the race's tightest finish. Adam Evans and Sam Chege both crossed in 6:05/mi average, Evans at 1:19:42 and Chege four seconds later at 1:19:46. Evans had also posted the 28th-fastest men's split on the 15K-to-20K segment, suggesting he found another gear late — but Chege was right there regardless. In a field of 296, four seconds is a sprint finish in disguise.
