The 41-year-old from Streetsboro, Ohio, ran 6:16 per mile through warm, windy conditions that had no business being easy, and her 3rd-fastest women's split on the 10K–15K segment was the decisive move — she was sitting 8th among women at the opening checkpoint and had climbed to 6th by the halfway mark, a position she held all the way to the tape. Tiffany Sloan, the local Virginia Beach runner, ran a composed 1:25:03 and posted the 8th-fastest women's split on the 15K–20K segment to hold off any late threats for 2nd. Ashley Hotaling, also from Virginia Beach, was even more impressive in the back half — her 15th-fastest women's closing split pushed her from 17th among women at 20K up to 13th at the finish, and she took 3rd in the F40-44 group going away.

The real drama was packed into places 4 through 6. Hawks, Murphy, and Mosedale finished in 1:34:10, 1:34:13, and 1:34:15 — a five-second window after more than an hour of racing. Murphy was the mover of the trio, surging from 53rd among women at the start of the final stretch to 39th, but Hawks had built just enough of a cushion to survive. In a race where the wind and humidity took their toll across 411 finishers, those three seconds separating 4th from 6th will linger.
