Shamrock Marathon F50-54: Gianoukos Pulls Clear for a Sub-3:30 Win

• Aimee Gianoukos (Williamsburg, VA) won the F50-54 race in 3:28:24 (7:57/mi), the only finisher in this group to break 3:30.
• Ying Liu was 2nd in 3:30:07 (8:01/mi) — just 1:43 back, but a clear gap to 3rd place opened up over the final miles.
• Beth Meisberger climbed from 182nd among women at the start to finish 3rd in 3:53:49, posting the 121st-fastest women's split on the 20K–to–half stretch as she worked her way through the field.
• Zita Merz held 4th in 3:57:17, with Ruby Len and Lesley Garner separated by just 35 seconds across 5th (4:04:49) and 6th (4:05:24).

Conditions at Virginia Beach were demanding — 95% humidity and an 11 mph wind at 55°F — and Gianoukos navigated them as well as anyone in this 55-woman field. She ran the race with real tactical intelligence, sitting around 30th–35th among women through the first half before gradually reeling in competitors over the back half. Her 27th-fastest women's split on the 20K-to-half segment signaled she still had something left, and she ultimately crossed in 7:57/mi to claim the title by a comfortable 1:43.

Liu tracked a similar early arc — 48th among women near the start, steadily climbing to 39th by mile 20 — and her 35th-fastest women's split on that same 20K-to-half stretch showed she was running with purpose. The two women were running in a different gear from the rest of the field; 3rd-place Meisberger finished over 23 minutes behind Liu, a gap that tells the real story of how dominant the top two were.

Meisberger's own race had a compelling shape: she started well back, 182nd among women, and spent the entire race climbing. By the finish she had moved to 121st among women, a gain of over 60 places. Merz, meanwhile, ran a more consistent race to take 4th in 3:57:17 (9:03/mi), logging the 133rd-fastest women's split on the 5K-to-10K segment. Behind her, the 5th-through-9th positions were tightly packed, with Len (4:04:49), Garner (4:05:24), Erdenechimeg Khandmaa (4:05:31), Kathleen Thomas (4:07:07), and Mary Jo Logan (4:07:17) all finishing within three minutes of each other.
