Shamrock Marathon F40-44: Ropp Runs Away With It

• Elizabeth Ropp (3:16:01, 7:29/mi) won the F40-44 field by more than eight minutes — a commanding margin over 91 finishers.
• Angeline Vanhalle stormed from 45th among women at the 15K mark all the way to 24th by the finish, posting the 14th-fastest women's split on the 30K→35K segment to lock up 2nd place in 3:24:12.
• Rebecca Zoss climbed steadily from 72nd among women at 5K to 48th at the finish (3:33:18), recording the 39th-fastest women's split on the 20K→Half segment along the way.
• Nine minutes, 13 seconds separated the top two finishers; just over five minutes covered places 2 through 5.

Elizabeth Ropp of Abingdon, VA ran a controlled, confident race from start to finish. Sitting 9th among women through the early checkpoints, she crept up to 7th by the 20K mark before settling back to 10th among the full women's field by the line — but within the F40-44 field, no one came close. Her 7:29/mi average on a humid, breezy Virginia Beach morning produced a 3:16:01 that stood nearly eight and a half minutes clear of the field. She also flashed genuine speed mid-race, posting the 6th-fastest women's split on the 10K→15K segment.

Vanhalle's second-place run (3:24:12, 7:47/mi) was one of the day's great comeback stories in the F40-44 field. She was 45th among women at 15K and still 44th at 20K — then she turned on the jets. That blistering 30K→35K split, 14th-fastest among all women, propelled her from 34th to 24th in the women's standings and sealed the runner-up spot by a comfortable margin.

Rebecca Zoss (3:33:18) rounded out the podium with a patient, progressive effort — she was 72nd among women at the opening 5K checkpoint and worked her way to 48th by the finish. Tiffany Keffer (4th, 3:38:32) and Tracy Yorkonis (5th, 3:39:54) were separated by just 82 seconds, with Yorkonis having posted her best relative effort early — 70th-fastest among women on the 5K→10K segment — before the 95% humidity and coastal wind took their toll over the final miles.
