The defending champion had other ideas, though. Jerry Greenlaw, 38, of Alexandria had won this very race in 2025 in 2:27:28, and he came back swinging. He ran a patient, disciplined race — sitting 4th through most of the field's early churn — before making his move in the final miles, climbing from 4th to 2nd between miles 25 and the finish. His 2:30:04 is a worthy defense of the title in spirit, even if Allshouse proved just out of reach. Devin Horseman-Guy (3rd, 2:30:40) and Gabriel Loader (4th, 2:31:13) rounded out a compelling podium chase. Horseman-Guy ran the 2nd-fastest men's split in the 5K–10K segment and tracked near the front throughout. Loader was the quiet mover of the race, working his way up from 7th at the 5K mark to 4th at the finish, and he closed hardest of anyone in the final stretch — posting the 2nd-fastest men's split from mile 25.2 to the finish. Ethan Renager, who led the men's race at the opening 5K, faded from 1st to 5th by the tape (2:31:25) — a reminder that Virginia Beach's flat course still punishes early aggression over 26.2 miles.
