Shamrock Marathon F65-69: Wright runs Richmond to the top

• Martha Wright (Richmond, VA) won the F65-69 field in 4:13:28 (9:40/mi), finishing more than 10 minutes clear of runner-up Tammi Clarke.
• Tammi Clarke closed strongly — her 30K→35K split was the 214th-fastest among all women in the field, helping her pull from deep in the women's standings to claim 2nd in 4:24:15.

Martha Wright set the tone early and never truly relinquished the lead. She was tracking around 237th–244th among all women through the middle miles, a steady position that reflected a controlled, confident effort at 9:40/mi. Her 5K→10K split ranked 206th among women in the field — one of her sharper early segments — and she crossed in 4:13:28, a margin of nearly 11 minutes over second place that left no doubt about who owned this race.

Behind her, Tammi Clarke ran one of the more compelling progressions in the F65-69 field. Starting well back in the women's standings, Clarke worked her way steadily forward across the first half, then shifted gears. Her 30K→35K split — 214th-fastest among all women — was the engine of a sustained climb that carried her from 383rd among women at 30K all the way to 328th at 35K, ultimately landing her 2nd in 4:24:15. Debbie Hartway of Stafford, VA had a similar story on that same stretch, posting the 243rd-fastest women's 30K→35K split to hold off any late challenges and finish 3rd in 4:34:55.

The middle of the field featured Theresa Reece (4th, 4:58:34) and Ellen Davis (5th, 5:06:22) running consistent second halves, with both posting their strongest relative splits between the Half and 30K. Annemarie Fiore of Bohemia, NY was 6th in 5:40:25, followed by Cheryl Fletcher (5:51:58), Karen Derrick (5:56:26), and Julie Proctor (5:57:06) — three finishers within a six-minute window. At the back, Theresa McCarthy crossed in 6:31:30, and then came the race's most striking closing stat: Casey Campbell (6:33:19) and Cindy Scott (6:33:20) finished 11th and 12th, one second apart after 26.2 miles on a humid Virginia Beach morning.
