She even flashed a 34th-fastest women's split on the 5K→10K segment, a burst of pace that underscored just how much she had on the field. The 55°F morning with 11 mph winds and thick humidity didn't slow her down.

Behind Kelly, the real drama unfolded across the final third of the race. Caia Farrell of Philadelphia had been steadily working her way up the women's field all day, climbing from 179th among women at the opening checkpoint all the way to 140th before a slight fade at the finish. Her 3:58:09 was good enough for 2nd, but only just — Kira Bonfiglio of Virginia Beach was charging hard. She finished 4th in 3:58:55 — just 23 seconds behind Bonfiglio and 46 seconds behind Farrell. Three teenagers, three sub-4:00 marathons, all within a single minute. Rounding out the top five, 15-year-old Caroline Blank of Charlottesville finished in 4:04:33, closing strongly with the 119th-fastest women's split on the final stretch — a composed effort from one of the youngest in the field.
