Elizabeth Cook made this one look straightforward. The 44-year-old Huntsville local crossed in 53:51 — averaging 8:40 per mile — and no one in the F40-44 field came within four minutes of her. In a 10K, that kind of margin isn't a gap; it's a statement.

Behind Cook, the real racing happened. Gretchen Abbott (40, Owens Cross Roads) claimed 2nd in 57:59, with Kiley Helton (40, Sylvania) just 48 seconds back in 3rd at 58:47. Both cracked the hour mark, making the F40-44 podium genuinely competitive even if the top spot was never seriously contested.

Further down, the battle for 4th and 5th produced the day's tightest finish. Lesley Carroll of Decatur and Kristi McDonald of Germantown, TN, both clocked 1:01:49 and 1:01:50 — Carroll finishing 5th and McDonald 4th by the timing system's finer precision. One second across 6.2 miles is about as close as it gets without a photo.

The middle of the field spread out across the 1:07–1:15 range, with Amanda Feres (6th, 1:07:24) leading a cluster of 14 runners who finished within about seven and a half minutes of each other. All 32 finishers completed the course on a comfortable, overcast December day — solid conditions for fast running, and Cook made full use of them.
