Women's Half Marathon: Sarah Crouch Runs Away from the Field in Huntsville

• Sarah Crouch wins in 1:20:12 (6:07/mi), the 2nd-fastest women's split on the 10K-to-Finish stretch — nearly five minutes clear of the field.
• Positions 3 through 5 flip late: Michelle Ziegler (4th, 1:30:33) moved up from 5th after the 10K mark, while Helen Webb (5th, 1:32:14) dropped back from 4th — Ziegler running the 5th-fastest women's 10K→Finish split to Webb's 6th.
• Ramsey Nuss improves her own mark: 11th in 1:40:47 — a full minute and two seconds faster than her 7th-place finish here in 2023 (1:41:49).
• Sammie Stewart, age 13, crossed 20th in 1:50:12 — one of the more eye-catching results in a 248-woman field.

Sarah Crouch, 35, of Madison, AL, was never seriously threatened. She led from the gun, held the top spot through every checkpoint, and finished in 1:20:12 at a 6:07/mi clip — good enough for the 2nd-fastest women's split on the back half of the course. The gap to second place was 4 minutes and 56 seconds, which is less a race than a statement.

Katy Butler, 19, of Dayton, OH, was the clear runner-up at 1:25:08 (6:30/mi), posting the 3rd-fastest women's 10K→Finish split and holding 2nd from start to finish. Behind her, Katie Cannizzaro, 41, of Vestavia Hills, AL, was equally steady in 3rd at 1:28:55 (6:47/mi) — the 4th-fastest closing split among women. The real late-race drama belonged to positions four and five: Ziegler came through in 1:30:33 after moving up from 5th, while Webb faded to 5th in 1:32:14, a 1:41 gap separating them at the line.

Further back, Ramsey Nuss made the most of her return to Rocket City. Her 1:40:47 (7:41/mi) represents a genuine improvement — 62 seconds faster than the 1:41:49 she ran here in 2023, and good for 11th this time around. Melissa Miller (6th, 1:34:42) and hometown runner Sara Jackson rounded out the named finishers, with 228 more women completing the course behind them across a mild December morning in Huntsville.
